These are the terms on which we quote for and carry out work. They are written to be read rather than to be impenetrable, because the parts that matter to a homeowner are what happens if something unexpected is found in a roof, and what you can do if you change your mind. Nothing here reduces your rights as a consumer.
Who the contract is with
Shoreline Skylights Worthing and the person who accepts the quotation.
Where a landlord, a builder or an agent instructs us, the contract is with whoever accepts the figure rather than with the occupier.
Quotations
Given after a survey, in writing.
A figure is produced after we have seen the roof, the loft and the room, and it sets out the unit, the construction, the access and the making good as separate lines.

How long a quotation stands
For the period stated on it.
Glass, aluminium and timber prices move, so a figure carries an expiry rather than being renegotiated quietly later.
What a quotation includes
What it says, and it names the specification.
The product and size, the glazing, the flashing or kerb detail, the access allowed for and the making good, so it can be compared with anybody else’s.
What it excludes
Anything listed separately. Decorating, blinds and electrical work are quoted as their own lines where they are wanted, so they can be removed rather than found inside a total.
Accepting it
In writing, and then the unit is ordered.
Because units are manufactured to a measured size, acceptance is what triggers the order, and that is the point at which a commitment is made.
Deposit
Taken against the order. A deposit covers the materials being manufactured for your property, and the balance is due on completion of the work.
Your right to cancel
Fourteen days, under consumer law. Where a contract is agreed at your home or at a distance rather than at business premises, you have a statutory right to cancel within fourteen days of entering into it.
Cancelling after work has started
Possible, and you may owe for what has been done.
If you ask us to begin within the cancellation period and then cancel, you remain liable for the work carried out and for materials made to your specification.
Made to measure items
Where the right to cancel is limited.
A unit manufactured to the measurements of your roof is a bespoke item, and the statutory cancellation right does not extend to goods made to a customer specification once they have been made.
What we ask you to do
Provide access and clear the area. Access to the property, to the loft and to the room, somewhere for the equipment to stand, and the working area cleared before we arrive.
Variations
Agreed before they are carried out. If the work changes, we tell you what has changed, what it costs and why, and we do not proceed with additional work without your agreement.
What is found in a roof
The commonest variation by a distance. Timber that has taken water from a long standing leak is cut out and replaced, and the quotation states in advance that this may arise and how it will be priced.

Weather
A job is moved rather than pushed through.
The roof is open for part of a working day, and where a forecast will not hold we postpone, which is a delay rather than a breach.
Building Control
Notified by us where the work is notifiable.
The route is arranged before the covering comes off and the completion paperwork is passed to you, because it is the document a buyer’s solicitor asks for.
Planning permission
The property owner’s responsibility. We will say where we believe a consent is needed and we will not carry out work we understand to require a permission that has not been obtained.
Completion
When the work described is finished. Roof work, the unit and the reveal prepared, with any plastering or decoration listed separately if it was quoted.
Payment
The balance on completion. Invoices are payable within the period stated, and we would far rather be told about a concern than have an invoice go unpaid without explanation.
Our guarantee
Ten years on workmanship. What it covers, what the manufacturer covers and what would invalidate it are set out on the our guarantee page.
Liability
Limited in the ways the law allows, and no further.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Complaints
Raised with us directly.

Subcontractors
Used occasionally, and we remain responsible.
Where a specialist trade such as an electrician or an engineer is involved, the contract remains with us and the work is our responsibility to you.
Access equipment
Arranged as part of the work.
Scaffold or a lift is priced in the quotation, and where it has to stand on or over a neighbouring property that agreement is arranged before a date is set.
Property and belongings
Protected before anything is cut.
The working area is sheeted and cleared, and we ask that anything valuable or fragile is moved out of the room before we arrive.
Governing law
England and Wales.
These terms and any contract under them are governed by the law of England and Wales and subject to the jurisdiction of its courts.
